Gestational Trophoblastic Disease

Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is a rare condition that involves tumors forming inside the uterus. These tumors are created from cells thats would normally develop into the placenta during pregnancy.

Often times these tumors are benign and require simple surgical procedures like a dilation and curettage (D&C) for treatment; however, occasionally the tumors are cancerous and require other treatment modalities such as a hysterectomy, chemotherapy or radiaton to provide a cure. Whenever possible Dr. Neubauer performs a hysterectomy via a minimally invasive approach to surgery which allows for faster recovery and fewer complications. Gestational trophoblastic disease is highly curable and should be treated by an oncologist with experience treating this disease.
